Amtrak officials say service into Penn Station is expected resume at 5 a.m. Saturday and that the East River Tunnel has been cleared for use.
The Long Island Rail Road service will resume if there is no strike.
Significant delays occurred Thursday after a fire erupted near Penn Station.
Officials say the fire happened before 12 p.m. in the East River Tunnel that connects the Long Island Rail Road between Manhattan and Queens.
Firefighters were able to get it under control, but the damage was significant, forcing crews to work throughout the day on Friday, overnight and into Friday morning to try and get things back on track.
The MTA says if there is no LIRR strike, be sure to confirm your train's status before traveling in the morning.
