Canine Companions honored local veterans in Bay Shore, recognizing not only their military service but also the difference they continue to make in their communities.
Among those honored was Farmingdale resident Staff Sgt. Arturo Edwards, a Vietnam War veteran who now dedicates his time to helping homeless veterans access resources and support. Edwards has helped 20 veterans during the past eight months through his outreach efforts.
"We have packages we set them up with, we visit them, we go to wherever they are at. Our job is to help homeless veterans and make sure each and every veteran is not hungry or left behind," Edwards said.
The event also recognized veterans who served during World War II and the Korean War.
