Twelve people were displaced by a house fire in Hempstead.
The blaze began just before 8:30 a.m. at a house on Maryland Avenue. An occupant of the home self-evacuated and no injuries were reported.
About 75 firefighters responded to the scene. The Hempstead Fire Department was the lead agency, with aid from the Garden City, Uniondale, Freeport, South Hempstead, West Hempstead, Rockville Centre, North Bellmore, Elmont, Westbury and Franklin Square Munson fire departments.
The home was deemed uninhabitable, and 10 adults and two children were displaced. The Red Cross was requested to the site.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and Nassau County Police Department's Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating the cause of the fire.
