A Hempstead man was taken into custody after a struggle with police inside Nassau University Medical Center on Saturday evening.
Nassau police say they were at the East Meadow hospital for a separate reason when hospital staff asked them for help handling an uncooperative person.
Together, staff and police told Emmanuel Okoro that he had been discharged, but he allegedly became aggressive immediately and combative with officers.
While they tried to handcuff him, police say the 66-year-old swung his arm at officers and held onto the top of a desk to resist and delay his subsequent arrest.
Officers were then informed that prior their assistance, he allegedly grabbed a staff member's right wrist and twisted it. The hospital staffer had substantial pain, police say, and a bump on his wrist causing mobility issues.
Okoro is charged with assault and obstructing governmental administration.
