Meadowbrook State Parkway northbound lanes were closed for about an hour after a tractor-trailer overturned, according to New York State Police.
Police got the call about the collision between the tractor-trailer and the overpass around 1 p.m. near Westbury. The lanes reopened around 2 p.m.
Officials say no other vehicles were involved and there are no injuries currently reported.
A Department of Transportation spokesperson released the following statement about truck overpass collisions:
"Safety is the top priority of the New York State Department of Transportation. NYSDOT has implemented several countermeasures to prevent overheight vehicles from entering parkways in recent years across Long Island, including the installation of warning signs on every entrance ramp; overheight vehicle detection systems; 'Low Bridge Clearance' pavement markings at frequent bridge strike locations; and large, highly reflective advance warning signs displaying bridge heights with reflective signposts.
Truck drivers and commercial vehicle operators are responsible for knowing and obeying height restrictions on state parkways. Misplaced commercial vehicles can cause significant traffic delays, damage critical highway infrastructure, and create hazards for other motorists."
