A Selden man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing his daughter over a decade ago when she was 5 years old.
The 47-year-old man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, was previously found guilty on two counts of course of sexual conduct against a child at a bench trial, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
The DA said evidence in the trial established that the defendant began touching the victim's intimate parts in the summer of 2015 when her mother was not home. The abuse escalated to intercourse and came to an end when the defendant moved out of the house and no longer had access to the victim.
The defendant was arrested in April 2024 after the victim told school officials and the Suffolk County Police Department investigated the allegations. He was found guilty last September.
In addition to his 25-year sentence, the defendant was also sentenced to 20 years of post-release supervision.
“It is unconscionable that a father would subject his own daughter to years of such disgusting acts of sexual abuse,” Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said in a news release announcing the sentencing. “Our hearts go out to the victim who was extremely brave in coming forward after everything that she endured, and we will continue to provide unwavering support for her as she navigates the path to healing from this egregious crime.”
