Three people were rescued from rip currents in the water off Suffolk’s south shore Tuesday night.

The West Islip Fire Department responded to Robert Moses State Park just before 8:30 p.m. for multiple swimmers in distress about 100 yards off shore near Field 2.

Park officials tell News 12 one individual was originally reported to be in need of assistance when two other people from the beach went out to help and also got caught.

Three good Samaritans, who are off-duty lifeguards that were surfing nearby, were able to get everyone out of the water safely, according to Suffolk police.

All six people were medically evaluated and no injuries were reported.
