The driver of an SUV accidentally crashed into a Suffolk County restaurant on Tuesday night.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. at Popei’s Clam Bar on Middle Country Road in Coram.
A 75-year-old Miller Place man was attempting to back his 2025 Honda out of a parking spot when he inadvertently stepped on the gas, police say.
The Coram Fire Department, Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal, and Town of Brookhaven Building Inspector all responded to the scene.
Popei’s owners say the damage was minimal and the eatery was open for business on Wednesday.
“Everyone is safe, and we are ready to continue welcoming you all as usual,” they said in a post on social media.
“We are so thankful, as the situation could have been much worse!” the owners continued.
There were no reported injuries.
