A swastika was found etched into a seat aboard a Long Island Rail Road train early Tuesday morning.
An Orthodox Jewish man spotted the drawing while riding a train from West Hempstead to Grand Central Terminal. He took photos of the graffiti and shared them with News 12.
News 12 spoke with Zachary Graulich, director of education at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center, about the significance of the symbol and the message it conveys.
“The swastika stands for much more than antisemitism. It stands for Nazism. It stands for racism. It stands for homophobia, and it stands for continued hatred against anybody anywhere,” Graulich said.
News 12 reached out to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for comment.
The MTA said the "LIRR had been made aware of the graffiti and was working to remove it."
