Two men were sentenced Thursday for the 2022 killing of a Bohemia father and husband who was shot in his own backyard over a mistaken belief that a stolen cellphone was located at the residence.
Christopher Fernandez of Sound Beach, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after a jury convicted him of murder. Oliver Schor, of Miller Place, received 22 years to life after pleading guilty to murder.
Prosecutors said the pair targeted Michael Hartmann's home on Nov. 2, 2022, mistakenly believing a stolen cellphone had been pinged at the residence.
Armed with a guns, 29-year-old Fernandez and 24-year-old Schor went to the home and attempted to enter through the back door when they encountered Hartmann.
Prosecutors said one of the men shot the 49-year-old multiple times as he tried to get back inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As News 12 previously reported, Hartmann's daughters were asleep inside the home when the shooting occurred.
