A jury may decide the fate of a man accused in a deadly 2024 Deer Park car crash today.
Prosecutors allege Steven Schwally was intoxicated when he slammed his car into Hawaii Nail & Spa, killing four people and injuring nine others.
Authorities say he had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.17 at the time of the collision, which is more than twice New York's legal limit for driving.
During the trial, the defense argued that the tragic crash was not caused by intoxication. They claimed his leg locked up while driving, making him lose control of the vehicle.
Schwally’s attorney also made accusations of corruption, claiming that his client’s blood test was tampered with.
Closing arguments in the trial concluded on Tuesday. Schwally faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
