The sound of skateboards is rolling through Tanner Park in Copiague once again.

The Town of Babylon has unveiled a newly renovated skate park, replacing aging ramps that had deteriorated over the years from use and exposure to the waterfront's salty air.

The new concrete park was designed with input from world-record skateboarder and Lindenhurst native Chad Caruso and other local skaters.

As a teenager in 2004, Caruso and his friends successfully petitioned the town to build the original skate park.

"This place has been a huge part of my life since it opened in 2004," said Caruso, "I petitioned for it and ever since then I've seen so many people come in and out, friendships built, people like me staying out of trouble and it really serves the whole community in a special way."

Now, more than 20 years later, the park is getting a fresh start as a gathering place for local skaters and the next generation of riders.

Caruso holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest skateboard crossing of the United States, a mark he set in 2023 and broke again earlier this year when he skated from Venice Beach, CA to Jacksonville, FL in 39 days.
